a fun weekend game…

I just finished listening to another fascinating program from Bob Edwards.   In this one, he interviewed Dr Daniel Levitin – neuroscientist and author of This is Your Brain on Music and The World in Six Songs.

musicI haven’t read either of these books (YET!).  The interview did get me thinking about which six songs I’d pick to describe my life.

Since I’m making up this game, I get to make up the rules.  I’m going to try to think of six songs that chronologically describe where I’ve been, where I am and where I hope I’m going.   You can play, too!

Here goes:

years 1-10 ~ Don’ Worry, Be Happy / Bobby McFerrin

years 11-20 ~ Where You Lead / Carole King

years 21 – 30 ~ A Case of You/ Joni Mitchell

years 31 – 40 ~ Somewhere Over the Rainbow / Eva Cassidy

years 41 – 50 ~ In Spite of Ourselves/ John Prine & Iris DeMent

years 51 … ~ The Secret o’Life / James Taylor

THAT WAS FUN!  Next?  What six songs describe your life?

  1. Hmmm…not sure if I can come up with 6 songs, but the first one that comes to mind is the old Beatles tune, “When I’m 64”, since I’ll be turning 64 in August. (NO, wait…I must be just 30-something!)

“In Spite of Ourselves” would sure be another one I’d pick. And then, the Moody Blues “Answer” is a great message to my sweetie. (Aw, shucks.) David Allen Coe’s “If That Ain’t Country” describes a lot about growing up in Stevenson, Alabama. And probably the one I’d pick to sing to Lisa is “If My Nose Was Runnin’ Money Honey, I’d Blow It All On You.” I guess that’s kind how I think.
